December 2024 – February 2025
A plain Renaissance shirt, possibly the most versatile item of the 16th – 17th century man’s wardrobe. Worn here with wool breeches, black velveteen bonnet, over-the-knee socks and latchet shoes.
It’s made from leftover lengths of fine portofino linen, and the shirt’s sleeves are cut from a slightly different shade of white than the rest. But all the linen is clearly from the same vendor. The shirt pattern is nearly identical to the version made in 2007, though the body piece is a couple of inches longer. However it’s finished quite differently. Closures are sewn-in ties at both neckline and cuffs. All seams are 3/16″ and hand-felled. The cuffs, collar and neck gussets were attached by hand via stroke gathers.
