May Day 199?
This dress was made for an annual May Day celebration in Berkeley. A couple of Sabrina’s friends were the organizers, and for several years she volunteered to do the design and decorating. In this photo Sabrina is holding a ribbon in the dance around the May pole. It’s one of my favorite pictures of her and one of my favorite costumes as well. For this event she also made garland-draped tents of sheer netting, decorated the various areas for dancing and games, and created “fairy circles,” areas on the lawn cornered off with ribbons, sticks, and floral do-dads. The crown of wild roses she made for her hair comes from a rose bush that grows in the cul-de-sac outside of my mom’s house. I’ve seen these pink roses scattered throughout photos of her other work.
