December 2025 – February 2026
This smock is cut very much like the one I made in 2012, but with a lower front and back neckline. The portofino linen is heavier and stiffer than what I normally use. In fact, it’s repurposed from a camicia made in 2022 which I deemed unwearable – see “Italian Camicias” page. But the fabric is suitable for a simple working class shift. 3/16″ wide seams are hand-felled to both sides of seam allowances. That’s twice as many seams to finish, but at the same time, it’s easier construction-wise. The smock is made to be worn with a 1370s sleeveless gown. As a basic garment, it could work for many eras.
