Tudor Smock

January – June 2006

The Smock Pattern Generator at the Elizabethan Costume Page got me a basic pattern. I found that it was necessary to measure the width around my elbow in a fully bent position, rather than my bicep, for the sleeves to fit. Even then, I cut the sleeves straight rather than tapered. They have a 2″ wrist ruffle which closes with an eyelet-and-string method. It’s in 3.5oz linen from Fabric-Store. The neckline is shaped for a Tudor gown.
