A 1950s retro tiki set in quilting cotton. Since I was flat out of tiki fabric, it felt like the right time to cut into a lovely 3 yard remnant in the stash. The print seemed a reasonable choice for the project. The stylized florals in Couture Fabrics of the 50s show a wide range of designs.
Butterick 6354, from the Patterns by Gertie line, was used for the wrap skirt and bolero top. The skirt is unlined and incredibly simple to make. The bolero was bag lined in navy blue cotton lawn and then hand-picked along the edge. My dirndl princess seam bodice was adapted for the bustier by moving the opening to center back. The dark blue buttons, also from the stash, blend right into the busy print.
